The original intention had been to simply present the prints in some organized manner and let them sit. Oh, but the prints required much work. They were selected from the scanned images at random and somehow that random walk felt "comfortable". It ended up being analogous to flipping the pages of a photo album. The prints have simply been left in that order.
The brain tends to "parallel process" and during the clean up work, there is lots of time for such background processing. What come up during that parallel operation, of course, are memories upon memories of school life in the early sixties. Those memories have invited the addition of text in the form of technical comment, explanation of content and personal reminiscence. Some of that material has been added as text to lend a little coherence and to trigger the recall of further memories in the reader.
On that subject of further memories, dear reader, please do not hesitate to send along such memories of your own to the author for incorporation into these pages. If you have a photograph made in the school, please send a copy of that along, too. Please do not send a negative, that is precious. Electronic transmission is quite acceptable and in about any format known. 35mm negatives must be scanned at 1,200 pixels per inch. Scan larger negatives and photographs at a resolution selected to produce a file of about two megabytes. Do not be concerned that a print made from your now 40 year old negative shows spots and scratches or looks washed out. Great things can be done here to clean it up spots and scratches and to enhance contrast before posting.

These photographs are redolent of a time for us when life was dramatic. We lived days of high elation and bitter despair. The world was large and fresh and challenging; upon some of us it pressed in relentlessly. Those days have been buried for 40 years. Relive those times in the "School Life" and following album pages.
