On September the 8th, the Trans Canada Highway had been "completed". Never mind that most of it was not paved and that, in Newfoundland, the grade work had not been finished. John George Diefenbaker finished, by hand, the last bit of paving in the Rogers Pass and declared the Trans Canada Highway finished. These kids were about to be exposed to the Cuban missile crisis. The world held its breath in October of 1962. As old Arthur said: The old order changeth and yieldeth place to new... Douglas Edwards disappeared and Walter Cronkite began two decades as the news anchor the continent trusted.
