A special look is required at the distinguished chap at the right hand end of the middle row. Now doesn't that look like Ken Hart? Maybe it's Ken's equally dapper but rarely photographed twin, good old Tieless Hart.

Юрий Алексеевич Гагарин on the 12th of April rode Vostok I into orbit in a magnificent triumph of technology. He became the first man in space and the first to orbit the earth. His backup pilot on that first flight was one Герман Степанович Титов. Titov would shortly distinguish himself as well in Vostok II.
Here's music suitable for recalling the news footage we saw of the by then Major Gagarin on his appearance in Moscow. The Internationale, brass band and The Internationale, magnificent symphony and chorus. (If you enjoy the great Russian basso tradition, have a listen to Midinght in Moscow the way it should be heard!)
